IEP and 504 plan consultation

For families whose child has, or may need, an IEP or 504 plan. Your child may attend D.C. Public Schools (DCPS), a D.C. public charter school, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland, or a private school.

I started as a special education teacher, then worked as a consultant and school psychologist, over twenty years in all. For more than a decade, I worked with young children and their teams through Child Development Services, part of the Maine Department of Education. I know how IEP and 504 teams make decisions and what they have to consider.

A good plan matches what the evaluation found, says who will do what, and shows how progress will be checked.

This helps when

  • You want to request an evaluation and aren’t sure how

  • Your child has a plan but isn’t making progress

  • You’re unsure whether your child needs an IEP or a 504 plan

  • You and the school disagree about what your child needs

How it works

  • We talk through your concerns and your child’s history

  • I review the evaluation, current plan, and progress reports

  • I visit the school when it helps and the school allows it, observing in the classroom, preschool, or nursery school and talking with teachers and specialists

  • We decide what to ask for: goals, services, accommodations, and how much time your child gets with a specialist

  • I help you prepare, attend meetings with you, and help you put your requests in writing
