Professional training
Workshops and talks for school teams, clinics, pediatric practices, and state associations. In person in the D.C. area, and online in the U.S. and internationally.
I started as a special education teacher and have over twenty years of experience in education and psychology. I’ve presented at the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Annual Convention and at state associations. I’ve also led international online trainings on dyslexia intervention and anxiety in the classroom.
I teach child psychiatry residents and fellows as Clinical Teaching Faculty at Tufts University School of Medicine. My trainings draw on my research on dyslexia assessment, report writing, and telling ADHD apart from mood problems.
Topics include
Dyslexia and reading assessment: using direct reading measures to find which skills are weak and plan instruction
Telling ADHD apart from anxiety and depression: what to look for, and why to recheck mood after ADHD treatment starts
Early identification of anxiety and depression: signs teachers and clinicians can watch for in children
Writing reports families can understand and use: organizing findings by topic and explaining results in plain language
Math intervention: how much is enough, and what a flat progress graph may mean
Classroom behavior supports: strategies teachers can use day to day
Recognizing developmental concerns: what teachers and classroom aides should notice, and when to raise a concern
How it works
We start with your audience and what you want participants to be able to do. Sessions range from a single talk to a series of workshops. Each uses real case examples.
